*Note: I have nothing against traditional weddings, this is just a post on why it wouldn't be right for me*
The post on why I'm not getting married before 30 mentioned in the end that I don't want a traditional wedding: getting married in front of all my family and friends and a wedding reception to follow. I would rather get married in Vegas, preferably by Captain Jack Sparrow or Reba but I'll settle for Elvis. And before I get emails about it, no, there is no man (or woman for that matter) in my life right now. But I'm pretty sure that when I do find someone I can stand to be around for the rest of my life, they will have no problem skipping the risk of having a bridezilla on his hands days before the wedding.
Like most females, yes I have put some thought into how I would like my wedding to be. See, I can be a little girly at times. My ideas are just a little different than most.
So to answer the main question: Why Vegas?
I remember my mother saying when I was teenager that if she could do it all over again, she would probably get married in Vegas (yes mom, you said that, remember my memory is stellar). I thought about it and said yes, that would be a lot of fun. Plus, I get to skip the stress of actually planning a wedding (I really don't care about centerpieces and would probably drive a wedding planner crazy with that attitude). I'm not one to be at the center of attention, I don't want all eyes on me. Or dealing with all the hair, makeup, getting the dress on- picking a dress too! For something I'm going to wear once, those things can be expensive and I'm pretty frugal. I'd probably ask my mother to make one along with all her pillowcase dresses for her granddaughter. AND I get to avoid the whole hurting someone's feelings if I don't ask them to be a bridesmaid or pick one person to be the maid-of-honor over another (not saying that it would happen, the people I would probably ask are pretty cool about those things).
Plus, Vegas would be fun. If we wanted to get married in 2 months, we can. Don't have to worry about buying dresses and tuxes, reserving a reception place, caters, centerpieces, the money, sending out invites, posing for all the pictures (because I don't understand the whole looking at your flowers pics. Why do photographers do that? Yes, they're flowers, we all don't need to stare at them), getting a photographer. Okay, I would want some professional-like pictures being taken but not the staring at the flowers one ::note to self, no flower bouquets at the Vegas wedding.....HA! Can't make me stare at flowers then!:: I mean, when I see pictures like that from other people's weddings, I think they look nice but I would burst out laughing if I have to stare at flowers. Whoa, way off track. Where was I? Oh yes, essentially, I could get married faster with 1/10 of the hassle/stress of planning a wedding.
Some questions I'm sure people are wondering.
1. Would my parents agree with this?
They save a ton on skipping the wedding/reception route AND get an excuse to go to Vegas......what do you think their response would be?
2. What if the guy doesn't want to do that?
Quite honestly, I don't think we would be getting as far as an engagement because our personalities probably clash too much. And the thought of a church wedding scares me.
3. Would you let family and friends come?
Sure, all who want to go would be invited (except crazy exes).
4. Why make everyone travel so far?
The way I think of it, if I was to have a wedding, it would either be here, back home, or wherever the guy is from or currently living (hopefully we are at the same address by that point). Someone is going to have to fly across the country regardless of where it is.
5. But....no reception even?
Okay, I was lying a little when I said that. I wouldn't mind having a small get together where I'm living at that point and back at home with friends and family to celebrate, especially if not all are able to fly across the country. But something small at either my parent's house or at a small banquet hall.
6. And your dress?
I'd buy a dress, not a wedding dress, but a nice one for the occasion.
If you have ever been married in Vegas (or somewhere similar) or skipped the whole ceremony (ie court wedding) please share your stories on what you did, whether or not you regret it looking back, and any ideas on who to be married by in the comments below.

Top Things People Ask Pharmacy Employees
The top things I hear on a daily basis at work:
1. Where's the bathroom?
2. Do you have oxycodone in stock? (by the way, that's the #1 thing that's asked on the phone)
3. ::2 seconds after handing a prescription to me:: How much will my copay be? (sheesh give me a minute to run it)
4. Is there anything over the counter for pink eye?
5. Where are the earplugs? (that one is reasonable because our company wasn't smart enough to give that section it's own sign)
6. Can I wait for it?
7. Why can't I fill my ::insert controlled substance drug here:: now?
8. Are you the pharmacist? / Can I ask the pharmacist a question?
9. Do you have Plan B?
10. What's a prior authorization?
11. No, I didn't get your phone call.
12. Can you see if my doctor called something in for me?
13. I want to check to see if something is filled before I came in. (on the phone)
14. (on the phone...again) I want to refill something but I don't have the number.
15. (store-specific question) What time is the clinic open until?
16. What time do you close?
17. I got a phone call from you guys. I didn't listen to the message though.

Forbear-ness Sake
Loan companies can cause headaches: or at least for me in regards to my one loan company. If you recall here, I had to call the loan company that owns the whale-sized grad school loan about them randomly putting me on deferment because the university decided to tell them I was full-time with zero credit hours being taken. The loan company then had said it would take a month to take me off of it and for my repayments to start back up.
Well, turns out, they lied. It took 3 months to take me off. When I checked my account yesterday to cry over the accrued interest, it no longer said deferment. It said forbearance. Which I didn't know what that meant at the time. I do now though because I wanted to make sure that wouldn't negatively affect me in any way (credit score anyone?). Turns out it doesn't, at least not if I make payments.
Epilogical's definition of forbearance: It is just like deferment, meaning you don't have to make any payments. The only difference is with forbearance, both subsidized and unsubsidized loans accrue interest as opposed to just the one. So in the long run, you pay more in total when all is said and done.
Now, with forbearance, the loan companies don't just hand these out like candy at a parade. With my loan company, you have to actually apply for it. It's usually for if you're having trouble making the minimum payments due to a major financial blow such as losing a job or not being able to find a job. Or having large medical costs due to illness. So apparently, I'm special because I didn't have to apply for this (though they were right in knowing making the minimum $800 monthly payments would have been a little hard the past couple of months). So, I was getting ready to call them and ask what the heck was going on because who knows, maybe they know my main job had ended last month, when I realized something else interesting. I made a small payment for each of the two loans (why they separated them by each year is beyond me, just group them together for crying out loud) in a vain attempt to keep the interest down back at the beginning of June. It said the payment was pending. Pending.... as if my money wasn't good enough for them or something.
I checked my bank records. Yep, the payment was withdrawn from my account. So my call was turning into a "what did you do with the $200 I paid you last month?" Well, they were closed and I would have to wait until morning. For the heck of it, I called the automated line to get my account information. This is what they said in a nutshell for both loans: "Your loan is currently in forbearance status until July 9, 2012 (as in yesterday, the same date as the phone call was occurring by the way). Your last payment of $100 (per loan which is correct) was received on June __, 2012."
So, after putting ice on my head to numb the pain caused by smacking it against my desk, I rechecked my account online. Sure enough, the payment did not say pending anymore. It was applied to the interest. Which I don't know what to make of this situation now. Everything looks good (except for the forbearance ending, I could actually use that right now). And all it took was a phone call to an automated system after a near panic attack and procrastination at posting the payment as occurring.
Moral of the story: when you have a loan, be it student, mortgage, auto, tattoo, whatever it may be, pay attention to what is going on with it. Print any and all confirmation numbers and make sure payments post properly. Also, call if something doesn't look right because chances are, it's not and it's better to get things sorted out immediately than later on.
By the way, the total interest accrued for those who are curious was: $1011.16, making me very close to a total of $70,000 for the 2 years of my life in school full-time.
On a completely different note, I had another centipede visit from the Bug of the Month Club late last night. Unlike the one in the popular 5 Second Girl Dance post, this one started running along the wall when I went to grab a tissue. I found it, knocked it down, and it ran under my couch before I could catch it. I think it's still under there because I said screw it and went back to bed when I didn't see it underneath.

Traveling With Cats
People are usually in awe at the fact that I opt to drive, instead of fly, the 950 miles from here to my hometown. They are more surprised by the fact that the two cats accompany me (and my mother, who flies down to drive up with me) on the road trip. Here are some tips I've learned from doing this on multiple occasions: (note that a lot of these also apply to other types of pets as well)
1. Make them as comfortable as possible
I'm lucky enough that my cats don't freak out in the car. The only time one of them yowls is when she is confined in her cage. My cats are more comfortable being able to move around during the 16 hour drive (yes, they are confined to the car for a full 16 hours and we all survive). However, this does not mean everyone should do this as cats are notorious for being bad travel buddies. What I had originally done the first time I attempted this (and when I only had the one cat) was to have his carrier and a little pop-up pet tent facing each other so that his carrier contained a bowl of water and food, and the tent had the litter box. He only meowed a few times throughout the trip to "remind" us he was there. This seems to work for a few other people making similar trips for cat that may be stressed. After that trip, I started using a baby gate to separate the back seat from the front and let the cat (and eventually cats) roam free in the back. Now, I don't even use that and they know if they want to come up front, they have to sit with the passenger, not the driver.
2. Remember on trips: if you have to stop to eat and pee, they will need to too.
I always make a litter box, food, and water available for the cats. Though mine hardly ever use these things (except when we stop and the car if off), it's there if they want it. Also, I ensure that when we reach our destination, that they have all three available immediately once inside the house.
3. Keep the environment calm
Do not blare your music, it will make your cat miserable. Also, I've learned that at least one of mine does not like an open window, probably due to the noise when we're on the interstate. The trip will stress your cat enough, do not add to their misery.
4. Acknowledge them
They will feel lonely if they're tucked away in the back. Say their name occasionally or, if possible, pet them. Let them know they are not alone or being ignored.
5. Don't drug them
I have seen some people have their vets prescribe anxiety meds for their pets during travel. I have also read a number of reasons not to do this. It may calm the cat for the trip but once they wake up: they are groggy, have NO idea what happened throughout the day, and are now in a new place while dealing with the after effects of their meds. Important note: NEVER give your cat any human medication without discussion with their vet first.
6. An emergency occurs
If something happens to one of your cats while driving, DO NOT take your eyes off the road until you have safely pulled over. Remain calm: if you are stressed, your cat will be.
7. Careful when opening doors
When you make a stop, make sure you know where your cat is when you open the door. You don't want a lost pet in the middle of no where. For cats, they sell harnesses and leashes for walking your cat so if your cat is one to bolt out the door when you come home every day, I strongly suggest a harness in case you need to grab them quickly and easily.
8. Make sure they are identifiable
In the chance that they do get loose either while driving, at the airport, or at your travel destination, it is important that if found, your information is easily obtainable. Both my cats have collars on 24/7 with tags that list their name and my phone number. They are also both microchipped as the shelter they were adopted at does that for all cats they receive. Even if they don't travel with you and stay indoors all the time, I strongly urge them to have a breakaway collar (in case they get caught in something, the collar easily comes off when they pull to prevent injury) and microchipped because you never know what could happen.
9. Plan ahead for hotels
I usually do all my trips in one shot and don't stay overnight anywhere, however, if you know you will be stopping overnight somewhere, call ahead to make sure the place allows cats.
10. Cat carrier
Make sure you can easily get the cat in their carrier. This does not include finding your cat first but once you have picked up the cat and are trying to place it in their carrier. It also provides them a safe place while in the car so make sure they have plenty of room. If you are just going to leave the cat in the carrier, period during the trip, they probably would appreciate a larger carrier than normal to have during long trips, such as a large dog carrier.
There are plenty of sites out there that list other tips for travelling with cats. This site talks about what to do for different types of travel with your pet (car, plane, before leaving). This site also includes some quick tips on when accidents happen. Another one is this site which provides some general tips as well.
Have you found some things that have helped with travel? Or have tips for other types of pets? Feel free to share in the comments.

Bug of the Month Club
I moved into my current apartment just under a year ago. What I didn't know when I moved in, was that this apartment had an active subscription to the Bug of the Month Club. Never heard of it? Don't worry, I made it up, as far as I know. Why do I think this?
Welcome Neighbor
A little over a month after I moved in, I started seeing this black spiders throughout my apartment. They were in all different areas. I found one above my fridge, a few in my guest bedroom, a few in my room (on under my pillow in the morning yikes!). So, I called the leasing office to get pest control to come spray. Because I don't like spiders. Remember how I said that centipedes are my second most hated bug to kill? Well, spiders are number one. I hate spiders. I don't care how good they are for the environment, as soon as I find them in my apartment, they got to go. If they are outside, I leave them but inside, no.
Anyways, pest control did come. I even stayed home from work that day so I could watch the cats and have the guy spray in every room. After that, I went to my nearest hardware store and they recommended some spray I could use along the windows and entryways to prevent more from coming in. My obsessive compulsive paranoia paid off. I didn't see any more of those black spiders during the rest of the summer.
Mind If We Join You?
So, the spiders were gone. This was good. My subscription apparently had expired. Or maybe spiders were a free trial for an upgrade for the Bug of the Month Club. My next entertainment was ants. Not the huge carpenter ants we had back home, these were small black ones. Which the ants back home is a really entertaining story, by the way, on how we found out how they were getting into the house. It involves beer, a tree, phone wires, and a party. There were no trees, phone wires, or a party when I found the ants in my apartment though. I did consume a few beers though because, well, I'm me. Anyways. I noticed a few ants in my bathroom, specifically around my tub. It had been raining pretty heavy the few days prior to this discovery so I just assumed they were coming in for shelter and would go away because this actually happened one time in my old apartment.
Well, a few days later 5 ants turned into 10 ants. And then 15 ants. I didn't know where the heck they were coming from. I just knew they were getting their friends and having a party. I went back to the hardware store and got some bait traps, the kind where there is borax mixed in with the solution so they take it back to the nest and hopefully eventually kills the queen (yes, I did become an ant expert during this ordeal). Anyways, with this stuff, it actually attracts more ants before eventually killing them all. So I was able to find out where they were coming from. There is a gap between my water faucet in the tub and the wall. That was their entry point. Eventually, their numbers were diminishing. Then, the worst happened. It rained again outside. Guess what? They had more friends. All of the sudden the number of ants coming for the bait was at a max. Eventually I decided to do a mass murder while taking a shower and remove the baits. I blocked off their entry point by putting plumbers putty around the faucet. Pretty soon no ants remained in the bathroom. I thought I was in the clear.
Oh nay nay. One day, I opened my laundry closet and found a swarm of ants in there. The reason? Sascode didn't eat one of his treats that was still in his carrier (I use this area for storage because I don't have a washer or dryer). I cleaned up the room and the ants went away again (and I plugged up their entry point I love plumbers putty now!). Well, a few days later they were back. I called up the leasing office and pest control came again. After a couple more requests, I finally got someone to come and professionally fill in the gaps along the walls where they were coming in. So, ants = gone.
How About Some of Us?
For the next few months, I had a few visitors. Silverfish (small gray centipedes are how I think of them) occasionally pop up. Those, I don't mind actually and if they're too high, I just leave them because they probably like ants and spiders. I had two centipedes total, one Epa killed for me. The most annoying one was a cockroach that I literally watched come into the apartment from a gap between the wall (see a pattern here?) and the hose you hook up a dryer too. That could not be plugged with plumbers putty. Tape did a good job though.

Free Upgrade Again
The past month, the spiders came back. This time at least they stayed in one area. The dining area. Guess what? I had pest control come and spray in the dining and living room area. Have seen a few since then but not on a regular basis.
I'm hoping the Bug of the Month Club has is only a year's subscription because I'm getting sick of it. My motto is "if you don't pay rent, you got to go." The cats and I are also on a don't ask don't tell agreement. I don't ask what they find when I'm not looking, and they don't tell me.

Job Hunting = Box of Chocolates
I'm sure a few of you just thought of the movie Forest Gump reading the title. "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." Well, job hunting is the same way, but for different reasons. Yes, you don't know what you're going to get for an outcome when applying to jobs, but I'm thinking more of when one applies for jobs.
First off, like when you get a box of chocolates, you want to apply for the jobs you find most interesting/favorable first before someone else gets the chance to. The best chance one has of getting a job is applying as soon as possible because you don't know when they will start interviewing and if they decide to hire a person on the spot. So, like your favorite piece of chocolate, you want the opportunity to have it before someone else.
After you chose your favorites, you start to become less picky about what comes next. The ones you really want are done, therefore, it's time to start on the other, less interesting ones. However, unlike the chocolate box, you still want the jobs you're applying to whereas the chocolates, you may not care as much if other people take them.
Then comes the jobs/chocolates that you'll take/apply to if there is nothing else available. You still will eat the piece or take the job, but you don't see yourself enjoying it for long and will look for better alternatives. Usually these are the ones that don't get a second thought afterwards unless of course, you get a call for an interview.
Finally, there are the ones that you avoid. The ones that even though they're there, you don't want them at all. The ones usually left in my boxes contain dark chocolate. Same with the jobs, even though you qualify, you don't want it and therefore don't even apply. Or in the case of chocolate, don't eat it and give it away.
Of course, applying for jobs may also cause a few boxes of chocolates to appear on your counter.
Another short post but today was a little busy for me both in my professional and personal life. As always, feel free to comment below or add your own comparisons below.

What NOT To Say To A Vegetarian
The last what not to say blog post (of what not to say to your pharmacist) seemed to be a huge hit with individuals so I decided to continue to series. This time, of what not to say to vegetarians. Also, as a bonus: my answers.
1. Why did you decide to become a vegetarian?
1. Why did you decide to become a vegetarian?
- This question may seem reasonable and innocent but it actually can annoy us. Why? Because it's asked by almost all non-vegetarians when they find out. Plus, the fact that a person is a vegetarian usually gets brought up because everyone is trying to decide where to eat and we have to mention that tidbit so we don't end up eating rice at a steakhouse (this has happened to me on more than one occasion unfortunately).
- My answer: I don't why to tell the truth. I was 12. Though around that time I choked on roast beef in a crowded restaurant and NOBODY helped me (yes mom and dad, even you stood there staring). I couldn't breathe and finally after 20 seconds reached down my throat to prevent an early death. So maybe being traumatized had something to do with it.
2. Is your whole family vegetarian or just you?
- Does it matter? If the person answered the first question with "I grew up as one" then that probably gives you the answer right there. Also, this can be a touchy subject if the person's family gives them a hard time about being a vegetarian.
- My answer: Nope. I'm the only one.
3. So do you still eat like, fish or eggs or nothing at all?
- Okay, vocabulary time. When people hear the word vegetarian, what they actually think of is vegan. A vegan is one that not only does not ingest any kind of animal products, but they also don't wear leather/fur/anything not man made. A vegetarian is a little more lenient. A strict vegetarian does not eat meat, fish, poultry, eggs, and for some, milk. Some only avoid red meat. Some don't eat chicken or meat. Some like omelettes with their toast in the morning but milk is a no-no. The term vegetarian offers a wide variety of diets to put it simply.
- My answer: I still eat eggs and use milk while cooking (though straight milk makes me sick so I use soymilk with my cereal). I never really likes fish and I group chicken with meat.
4. That's stupid, why would you do that?
- Okay, seriously if you ever say this, be prepared to be punched.
- My answer: ::punches idiot::
5. Are you one of those "crazy vegetarians"?
- The answer will always be no. Yes there are a few "crazy vegetarians" out there but you will figure out those ones right away, before even eating anything with them.
- Define "crazy." Is it a strict vegetarian? Or a person who doesn't like people eating meat around them? Or someone who things meat is murder and will throw a tofu pie in your face in protest?
- My answer: No. I am not a crazy vegetarian. But my opinion of your intelligence has dropped after you asked.
6. Are you going to get mad if I eat meat in front of you?
- This may not be that bad of a question but, only if the person you are with is crazy. Most vegetarians know that not everyone wants the same diet as them. Most were eating meat at some point in their life. If it's for religious reasons, if you are not the same religion, then no, they probably won't care as much. If you have to ask then you probably shouldn't order red meat while with them.
- My answer: No, I do not care what you eat. I'll even tell you your chicken smells good (because chicken does smell good to me). It was my decision to be vegetarian and I'm not going to impose that on you just like you shouldn't impose your diet on me.
7. How do you stay healthy with no meat?
- Meat is not as healthy as one may think. Also, it should not make up the largest proportion of your diet fyi. There are plenty of other foods that provide much needed protein.
- My answer: Seriously, do NOT become a dietitian.
8. Don't you want to try this ::insert meat item here::?
- Do I even have to explain this one?
- My answer: Actually, typically I laugh if I know the person's joking. But a warning: a lot of vegetarians may pretend to know and go along with your joking but will seriously take offense.
Are you a vegetarian? Have you ever said something to seriously tick a vegetarian off? Share you experiences in the comments! Also, don't forget you can follow me on twitter (Epilogical)

Loud Annoying Neighbors
I looked at my stats recently for this blog and noticed two things:
1. The 3 top viewed posts were humor
2. People like to read about things that can pertain to them
Anyways, I decided to do another life changing entry on obnoxious, loud, annoying neighbors. I've had my share. Not so much growing up, we lived in a quiet old people neighborhood. By that I mean most of the original owners still lived in the houses (circa 1950 built).
No Initial Problems
I decided to go to grad school 1,000 miles away from home. Which means I had to move into an apartment. A one bedroom 680 square foot apartment. When I filled out the application, I told them I just didn't want to be on the bottom floor. So I was put on the second floor, meaning I had one person below me and one person above me. Well, actually there was no one above me when I first moved in and I'm pretty sure there was no one below me either. The majority of the building was actually vacant. I'm sure the train tracks that were behind us may have had a little to do with the fact that maybe no one wanted to live in that particular building.
Clumsy and Stereos
A couple of months after moving in, I got some actual neighbors. They weren't too bad, except for the guy above me having a problem holding on to things because I would routinely hear a sudden loud bang above me every....single....night. The neighbor below me....well, let's just say he had a lot of girlfriends spend the night. He also liked to play music a little loudly at night (midnight night, not 8pm night). Well, one night I was so frustrated while studying (in the bedroom) that, I decided to express my irritation. While still sitting in my chair, I lifted up both my feet and then slammed them on the floor. It made a really loud noise, louder than I expected. But it did the trick: the music went silent immediately following. In fact, I never had a problem with him playing loud music again after that. Then he moved out.
More Stereos, Friends, and Late Night Strolls
So, a year or so after both neighbors moved it, they moved out. I'm guessing they didn't like the trains. Anyways, another person moved in below me. This one liked to have friends over and when they weren't over, he liked to talk extremely loudly on his phone. After one night, I decided to complain to the leasing office. The guy had thrown a party Saturday night (or maybe it was Friday) that lasted late. Past 2am late. They were inside and out on the porch so I wasn't the only neighbor who could hear them. I could even hear them over the train. Anyways, he was quiet for the next couple months, which was all I needed because I was moving to a larger apartment (that was not next to the train tracks). However, the person above me liked to go for late night walks. In her apartment. Seriously, every night starting at around 11pm (or later) she would walk from the bedroom to the living room to the bedroom to the living room......for over an hour. I wanted to yell: what are you doing up there?
More Friends
I moved into a larger apartment within the same complex. My new neighbors were quiet at night. A few months after moving, a new neighbor(s) moved into the building across from mine. Who had friends over always. And they liked to hang out in the parking lot and talk loudly at night. So loudly that one of my neighbors got in a vocal argument with them at 2am one time. Long story short, a bunch of us continuously complained to the leasing office. I was the final straw at one point. I remember, I walked into the leasing office to complain for the third time with my arms folded and a glare on my face. I must've looked pissed because the one girl actually backed up into her office when she saw me. Well, they ushered me into the manager's office who then said that she has had it and was evicting them. Apparently, I found out that while one guy filled out the application to live there (good) his 3 friends who were also living there didn't (bad, everyone who lives there has to at least fill out an application while only one is needed for the credit check). Must've been cramped because it was the same size as my old apartment (680 sq ft 1 bedroom). At least the train wasn't nearby.
Voices In Her Head
Well, the loud people were evicted. My next adventure is with one of my neighbors who apparently hears voices in her head. At least according to the leasing office. See, she complained to them that she hears loud people at night and that it was coming from my apartment. Leasing office knew I wan't to blame and even told her so. One night she decided to verify it by knocking on my door. Well, since I was the only one home and wasn't arguing with myself, I think that convinced her.
Hypocritical
So, neighbor who complains of loudness, decided one night to throw a party to quiet the voices in her head. It lasted past 3am. Lucky for me, I couldn't hear it from my bedroom. A week ago, she decided to act out the argument in her head with her own version. At 1:30am her and another person were having a heated argument. After 15 minutes one of them finally left. I found out the next day in the leasing office that she is moving out in the next couple of months. Hopefully the voices go with her. I've been tempted to ask if she hears trains too.
So, what does one do about loud, obnoxious neighbors? Here is a list of ideas that I *might* have done on my own (or just read other people have done). Please be advised that you may want to warn your other neighbors before doing some of these. Heck, they may even join in if they are annoyed as well.
These are just a few suggestions. Of course, there's the practical just call the police and complain to the leasing office. Have any of your own suggestions? Feel free to add them in a comment below. Also, feel free to share this blog with friends using the links below.

- Neighbor playing loud music at night? Play loud music in the morning. 5am is a decent time. I prefer the finale of 1812 (with the cannons).
- On days that they are not playing their music, play the opposite of what they seem to prefer. For example, if they play rap then play bluegrass (note: make sure they are home).
- Loud lovemaking? Open your window and yell "encore!" and clap loudly. Trust me, the female will more than likely be mortified and be a little quieter next time.
- Anytime you hear a loud argument, mention your opinion on the matter next time you see the neighbor. For example, if they are arguing about what type of car they should get, just mention to your neighbor when they walk by "I agree with your wife/boyfriend/partner, the Nissan is definitely more practical"
- Have textbooks, "drop" them on occasion (who knew you would actually use them after the semester ends).
- Have a loud conversation with your "lawyer" about your murder trial
These are just a few suggestions. Of course, there's the practical just call the police and complain to the leasing office. Have any of your own suggestions? Feel free to add them in a comment below. Also, feel free to share this blog with friends using the links below.

What I Learned From My Professor
Professors. We have them in college, we have then in grad school, we have them in professional school. Here is a list of some of my all time favorite quotes from some of my professors from undergrad and grad school. Some are funny, some you had to be there, and some are just plain mean. Regardless, these have all actually been said by a professor right in front of me. *Note: if you were in my class when this was said, please do not identify the professor on here.
No faith in the class
(Advice on reading journal articles) Just look at the figures. I mean, this is an upper level class, but it's an undergrad upper level class.
Well, if you don't understand it Epilogical, I know no one else in the class does. (He was being serious)
Epilogical, I'm only telling you because I know that as long as you know what to do, your group will do it right.
I hope you all have been studying for the upcoming ::pauses and looks around:: midterm ::makes frantic motion:: Who said that word?
(About a student who is chronically late to class) I'm sure ::student's name:: will grace us with his presence 20 minutes into class.
All anyone here will ever amount to is cleaning up animal s**t at the local fair.
No faith in the profession
When I don't feel like talking to anyone at a party, I just tell them I'm a statistician.
Most people think philosophers are really smart and deep thinkers. In reality, we are all just band members sick of working at McDonald's.
Seriously, don't go to grad school for my field. You'll hate it.
Ghost whisperer
Old people tend to die.
Well, you're not going to be saying anything, you're dead
So if someone asks you if you've seen any blue fairies dancing in the air would you say yes?
What's in a name?
Don't call me Dr. ::last name:: because I don't have my Ph.D. yet. Or Mr. ::last name:: because that's my dad. Just call me ::first name:: or you can say "hey dumbass" even if that's how you feel.
Oxymorons 101
I know I said you will lose credit but if you hand in late homework assignments, but if you hand them in now I'll give you full credit.
This will never be known, but you still have to know it.
Why should I give anyone in the class who got the answer right, credit?
The miracle of plants
When has strawberry DNA ever clogged up the sink?
So can plants cure cancer?
The 70's throwback
If you are not hip to my jive, just let me know. (note: the year was 2007 not 1977)
I hate my colleagues....
(Mocking another professor he knows I don't like) It's another ::snicker:: active learning question, right Epilogical?
Me: Shut up ::professor laughs::
I don't believe in giving weekly homework assignments that take days to do. Unlike some people I heard about.
Whatever you've learned in previous classes, ignore it because it will be wrong in this class.
Of course you can have him as an advisor. You'll want to slit your wrists after a week though.
(On faculty meetings) I hate our meetings. It's like a game of who's the idiot of the week?
.....But I like my job
Actually, the class reviews don't technically matter when you have tenure. I mean I could kill you guys and still not get fired. Okay, that's a little extreme.
(New professor who's never taught before) So what can I do in class to make it better.
(This person actually then grabbed a notebook and took notes on suggestions)
(About a conversation occurring before class) I'm not sure what you guys are talking about but I have a feeling I would be forced to disagree since I'm a professor even if I agree so I don't want to know.
I'm being serious, the dean actually told me to take attendance because she said "what if one of your students is out killing someone during class time?" And you think I rather have them in my class?
Are there any memorable quotes you have from professors? Feel free to share in the comments.

Working at the Pharm(acy)
I think I've mentioned in a previous post that I work in a pharmacy. If not, well, now I have. Anyways, I work for a chain which always makes things interesting. To protect my job, I'm not going to say what chain or where it's located. But, I thought I bring up some of the stories of things that have happened at the store I've been working at for the past 3 years that don't occur on a daily basis.
Last year, the store manager came in to work and found a great surprise one morning. Our front doors were opened. By opened I mean gone. And by gone I mean the whole front entrance was no longer standing. See, there were a rash of ATM robberies occurring in the area and we were the next target on their list apparently. The front entrance to the store has an ATM so instead of doing something normal like breaking the glass in the entrance or something, they went all out. The group reportedly had two stolen vans (know where this is going yet?). They decided to use the one as a battering ram and drove it through the entrance of the store. Unfortunately for them (and what made me laugh when I saw the aftermath pictures) a beam fell right in front of the ATM making it impossible for them to get any money out of.
Think about this for a second: their main reason for doing this has now been blocked. They are in the store. There is a whole bunch of crap right there in front (ie cigarettes and the expensive keep behind the counter crap). They do not take any of it and just leave in the second van. Of course, there was a witness who saw everything across the street and I'm sure we had alarms going off in the store so that may have also deterred them. I think they tried to run the witness over by the way.
Anyways, so chain store now has a large mess. Their solution while waiting to get the front redone was board up the entire front and lock it with a chain when we closed at night. Funny enough, the store wasn't robbed during that month. Oh, and the company that owned the ATM took it out for a few months after that.
Another event happened while I was working, actually, right after I walked in. Apparently, the person who followed in right after me (like literally I'm sure I was still on video when he walked in) had a gun. And would use it if necessary. No, he did not rob the pharmacy. He did rob the front end of the store and the girl who was at the register at the time, told me the guy had waited for me to walk to the back before approaching (must've known not to mess with me). He took off with whatever was in the drawer but it was also morning so there could not have been much in that drawer.
Now, this one occurred when I was working AND I was involved. I smelled something burning which with our crappy equipment wasn't anything new. Besides, no one else back in the pharmacy could smell it, at least not for a few minutes. About 5 minutes after I started to smell it, a patient that was waiting in the clinic came over to me and told me there was some smoke in the hallway (which is in the back of the store and just has the bathrooms). So, I come out, thinking it's no big deal since she didn't seem all that worried. I think I made the comment "so that's what I smell." Apparently "a little smoke" is defined as the whole hallway filled with smoke. And it was thick.
I walk back over to the pharmacy telling them to call the manager. Everyone waiting at the clinic was silent at that point. I don't understand that exactly because until I came out, they were going about as normal. There's smoke, you don't think there's anything wrong? It wasn't until I told the pharmacist to call the manager before everyone thinks "oh, yeah smoke in the pharmacy probably isn't a normal occurrence."
Anyways, the manager happened to be right there and took one look and said he was going to call the fire department. At that point everyone in the clinic start to get up and move (the waiting area is right by the hall). Before he goes to call though, we decide to kind of explore the bathrooms to see if it really warrants getting all the nosey people coming in due to there being a fire truck outside. Well, the fire was in the metal garbage can in the men's bathroom. It was out and just smoking at that point. We guessed some moron went into the bathroom for a smoke while waiting at the clinic or hiding the fact he smoked from his girlfriend and threw the cigarette in the trash. What idiot does that? Really not giving smokers a good reputation there.
To end the story, we didn't call the fire department and propped a door in the back open for a few minutes to clear the smoke out and dissipate the smell.
And since I forgot to post it on my last post, I am now on twitter. If you are interested in following me, my name is Epilogical (and no I do not put my real name down for professional reasons). If you are interested in more pharmacy tales, I will be posting soon a list of what NOT to say to your pharmacist and an explanation of the real reason it takes 15 minutes to fill your prescription.

Why Yes, I Have Children
I was planning on doing a more entertaining post on funny things children say but I don't have any myself so I needed help from others in that respect. I received too short of a list to make it it's own post so I will put down what I received so far:
1. "While at Julia's concert today, Luke was begging me to go with him to find the "confession stand" "
2. "At the zoo, my niece asked me why sometimes the kids have brown mommies when they're not"
3. "Brayden asked to see my cane and at age 4, said as he tried to use it 'I'm so old grandma' "
I do have two children of my own. They just meow instead of talk. When you think about it, pets are like having children, and many people decide NOT to have any kids since they already have pets and treat them as such. For those fellow pet owners, you are probably shaking your heads in agreement. For those without pets, I'll explain why pets are considered pets (with some specific examples I've experienced with my current two cats and from when our family had a dog).

For those fellow pet owners, you are probably shaking your heads in agreement. For those without pets, I'll explain why pets are considered pets (with some specific examples I've experienced with my current two cats and from when our family had a dog).
1. They are living creatures.
- Animals have their own needs that you have to be on top of. They require to be fed, given water, a nice large queen-size bed to sleep on er.....a pet bed. They also need to have playtime and acknowledged by you, their "parent"
2. They have additional needs besides food and shelter.
- Since it's just me living here, both my cats are constantly trying to get individualized attention from their mommy. They will even "push" each other out of the way. And by push I mean swatted at or chased away. Millie, my dog, used to be the same way, except she was an only pet and there were 4 of us in my family so attention was not a problem. Though she did have an issue with family members hugging each other and tried to join in....
- They also will miss you when you're not home. My homecoming is usually me being met by two cats bounding down the hall to purr and rub against me. Of course, that could also be because when I get home from work, they know they're getting their wetfood.
3. They get sick.
- Unfortunately, I have had plenty of experiences in this category. But to generalize this: pets are living creatures and therefore are prone to bacteria/viral infections. So they have to go to their doctor....and it isn't cheap in most instances.
- Also, please spay/neuter your dog or cat. It's the single most responsible thing you can do as a pet parent. You wouldn't like your teenage daughter coming home pregnant or to find out you 14 year old son is a soon-to-be dad, the same should be true about your pet. Plus, they typically have more than 1 pup/kitten at a time. Remember that next time you're thinking your pet knows how to say no (because in most cases, they don't)
4. They like to bug you in the middle of the night.
- I don't think there has been a night since owning a pet that I've slept the entire night without having a cat pounce on me, tap my face to lift up the blanket for them to crawl under, a dog whining to go outside, a dog whining to be let into the bedroom, etc.
5. You have to clean up after them
- I'll leave the obvious explanation out.
- They also tend to knock things over. I've had countless cups and the like knocked over by a cat (usually Sascode) filled with water for the past year.
- Dogs also have a strange fascination with the garbage
6. They get pissy
- It can be against each other or you. Either way, you usually end up with scratch or bite marks on you. Oh those teenage years.
7. They misbehave
- I know I've had to shout at my two cats for fighting or injuring each other. I know I'm not the only one.
8. Occasionally, you need to find a baby-sitter
- This may be because you're going out of town or because they need to be under watch due to a recent surgery and you have to work. Either way, they can't be left alone for the amount of time you won't be home.

Things That Annoy Me
Some updates before I forget:
1. I've added a gadget on the side that will let you receive an email about any blog updates (ie new posts). All you have to do is type in your email address, type in the right captcha (is that what it's called?) it gives you, and then click the confirmation link in the email it sends. Figure people would appreciate that as opposed to checking every few days. Plus, I have stopped posting every blog update on facebook for those who are my friends on there.
2. The Amazing Loan Race has begun, Katie and I have just not posted official start posts. She might later this month but I will keep you updated at the end of the month on how we are doing.
3. Epa is doing much better (she was the cat I had to take to the vet a couple days ago)
Okay, so now on with the actual post. I've made a list like this before and posted it online which was a huge hit for people (mainly those that know me). So, I thought I would update that list a little (it's a few years old) and post it here.
Things That Annoy Epilogical (in no particular order)
1. People who are surprised by the fact that I'm sarcastic and bitter
2. People who ask me if I'm okay and when I respond yes, they then ask me what's wrong.
What the heck people? If you thought something was wrong why did you even bother asking if I was okay in the first place. Just ask me "what's wrong" if my response to the first question is irrelevant.
3. People who can't park/refuse to park properly.
4. Strangers who stare as you drive by.
5. Microsoft
6. Christians who tell me I'm going to hell.
Well, if heaven only accepts snobby stuck-up I'm-better-than-the-world people like you, I prefer hell. It's more diverse
7. People who say "it makes you realize you could die at any moment"
Wait, you just realized this? Gee, I thought I could live for as long as I want despite any outside factors.
8. Men who ask if it's that time of the month when you yell at them.
9. Being followed when walking to my car (by someone looking for a parking spot).
10. Professors that tell you your freshmen year that you need to pick a career NOW because you already screwed yourself only to say later it's okay if you still don't know what you want to do.
Yes, I am STILL bitter about that.
11. People who ride your bumper in the right lane when the left lane is wide open for them.
12. Those extremely nice people who never stop smiling.
13. People who won't tell me how they really feel.
What I mean is that if I'm doing something that pisses you off, let me know. Don't be all shy and scared about it.
14. People bitching about showing IDs (required by federal law) to buy Sudafed products.
15. People who assume all vegetarians are crazy.
16. People my age who act like teenage girls. Get over yourselves.
17. The blantently obvious science errors shown in movies and tv shows.
Seriously? Open a high school science book people.
18. The two corner pins (bowling reference)
19. Leaving a solid 8 pin (another bowling reference)
20. People who park their cars in a manner that block the sidewalk.
21. Walmart.
22. People clearly in the way of others and still don't move.
Get your ass out of the middle of the stairs people. Next person who does that is getting shoved down the stairs and then laughed at.
23. People who give you an attitude for no reason.
24. People who don't say anything when you hold open the door for them (I know my mom agrees with this one).
25. Let's just shorten the list a bunch and say people in general.
26. Computers crashing.
27. Having to do new computer training modules for ::cough pharmacy I work at cough cough::
28. Damn PCI calls I have to do at work.
29. Lazy co-workers. I guess that is included under #25 but oh well, my list, my rules.
30. Telemarketer calls.
Holy crap. Today I received 6 sales calls on my home phone while I was at work. 4 were from the same place. And yes, I put my number on the DNC list. Next time I'm answering the phone and saying "law office of Mazer and Johnson what is your claim number?"
I have to interrupt this list for a moment to inform everyone I was just asked to take a 5 minute survey and it consisted of questions about pooping outside. Yes, my life is that random. Okay, now back to the list
31. The fact that it takes 15 minutes (or less) to fill a prescription, which is less time than you normally have to wait for a pizza to be made by the way, and people still complain.
Okay, clearly people in this country care more about the quality of their food than a properly filled medication. Which that would actually explain a lot come to think of it.
32. Taxes (still have to do mine and I am going to owe a lot)
33. Milk
34. Ignorance

The 5 Second Girl Dance
A centipede has inspired this post. But before I get into that, I would like to raise some awareness about animal abuse. Feel there is nothing you can do to help? You can help this victim through donations, or simply keep her in your thoughts.
Okay, now the post. I've been really busy so I haven't been able to write. I hope this one makes up for it.
A couple nights ago I was getting ready for bed and I turned towards the bedroom doorway and a spot on the wall right below the ceiling caught my eye. Actually, it was more than a spot, it was a 2 inch centipede. Just sitting there like it owned the world. Now, centipedes are my second most hated bugs to find in my apartment for two reasons:
1. They are fast and know how to get away quick.
2. I swear they have a 6th sense where they know something is about to go down.
So, here is the art form that is killing a bug (or if you prefer, catching it and scooting it's butt outside).
Initial Reaction
First, you do what someone I know has coined the "5 second girl dance" which doesn't necessarily last five seconds, nor is it a dance. It's that moment where you are thinking "Holy crap, there's a bug. Where is something I can use to kill it?" We all think it, don't lie to yourself and say you don't.
Time to Take Action
Now, centipedes are a special case. Because you know in the back of your mind that while you are going to get a paper towel/toilet paper/tissue to use to kill it that by the time you get back it will be gone. No other bug does this. Just them and it annoys the crap out of me. Luckily for me, my two cats are more than willing to keep an eye on an intruder while I get something to deal with it. So, I placed Epa on watch (ie, I picked her up, snapped my fingers in the direction of where the centipede was, and then put her down when she started to meow at it). I knew that I was covered. Unfortunately, the little creep was also right above my doorway, so walking back in created the paranoia that the thing would fall at the exact second I was under it. It didn't and in fact it didn't move at all. Hey, there are always centipede school drop outs that have failed to learn when to run. Survival of the fittest.
The Actual Event
Okay, let's stop my story right there and further assess the whole centipede killing event. If you are short like me and it's up high (like this one was) you will need to knock it down before you can kill it. That's easy enough with a broom. The next problem is finding it after you do this because like I said before, these things are fast. I mean, we would be too if we had 20 legs (and probably wouldn't need cars as much for travel when you think about it). So, you knock it down and by the occurrence of a miracle, see where it is. You then go to squish it. Two things can happen at this point: you either squish it as planned or you don't. The thing either manages to dodge your attack or, you think it's squished but when you start walking to flush the thing down the toilet, you see that it has broken free of your tissue grip and is starting to crawl towards your hand causing you to throw the tissue away from you. Either way, you now go into stealth mode and for the next 20 seconds, the sole purpose of you being alive is to find this thing and kill it. You have to, because you know the thing is pissed now and will probably come after you in your sleep if you don't find it.
In my case, I managed to be lucky this time and kill it the first time (and it helps that Epa will smack it around a couple times first).
The End?
Okay, so you have now successfully killed it or at least flushed it down the toilet (and by the way I find it hilarious when you flush a bug alive and as it's going down it always will grip the toilet paper. Evil I know but you know it entertains you too). Now the real paranoia comes and you wonder was it really dead? Or is it just waiting to climb back out of the toilet when you're not looking. So you flush again and check under the seat to make sure it is really gone and not just hiding.
The Cat's Plan of Attack
Sascode and Epa each have their own way of killing bugs that they find. Sascode goes in for the kill. He will raise his paw....move it slightly back and forth a few times and then.....BAM!!!! that thing is dead. Epa treats them like a new toy where she "gently" pushes them with her paw until they have died a slow, painful death. At which point, the pushes become less gentle as she tries to get the thing to move again. That's when I step in.
In other news, The Amazing Loan Race has officially begun this month. More on that later.

Entertaining Mothers
I thought I switch it up and make a more entertaining post for those who know my mother in honor of the fact that she is coming for a visit in a few days! I guess I should add here that she also has a blog of her own. It's on crafting so if you're interested check it out: My Awesome Mom's Blog
Anyways, my mother has been pretty entertaining over the years. I think the oldest thing we still bring up once in a while is an event that happened several years ago when we were in Disney World. That's right, the happiest place on Earth. So a little background about our trip. I was about 12(ish) which would make my brother 8(ish). Now, my brother loved the pool at the hotel (I think it was the All Star Sports or some weird name like that, it had a sports theme). So every time my parents asked us what we wanted to do next, he would always say "let's go back to the hotel". No! We're on vay-cay little dude! You're supposed to want to go on the rides or run around like crazy or eat or something. So after a couple of days of this my mother asked all of us what we wanted to do. My brother, of course, suggested going back to the hotel. My father and I pretty much shrugged and said something along the lines of "go on more rides or something". I don't remember WHAT happened next, I just remember afterwards my mother was about 10 feet away from us and said very loudly "We are going on this ride and we are going to have FUN!"
So, if you have ever heard that story before when talking to a friend or relative while planning a trip to Disney World, please let me know because there were a lot of people standing around and I'm sure that story got told.
Another, more recent event from a few years ago, happened in the privacy of our home. My mother and brother were having a discussion and she asked him a question. It wasn't a yes or no question so my brother said a few sentences and when he had stopped, my mother turned to him and said "I'm sorry, what did you say? I wasn't paying attention." This caused my brother and I to exchange confused looks for a second before we both said "You asked and didn't even pay attention to the answer?" So my mom said sorry and asked him what he said and my brother, said "Well, how do I know you are going to listen this time?" or something to that effect. I don't think he ever repeated his answer.
The last one that sticks out is from a few days ago. My mother and I were talking on the phone and in mid-conversation she said "You need to get married and have babies. Specifically a girl." Since this was completely random I had to ask "Why?" So, you think her response would be "I want grandkids I'm getting old" or "All my friends are grandparents and they won't let me join their secret club" or something like that. No. Her reasoning was and I quote "I'm making pillowcase dresses." That was the reason that I need to find a boyfriend, marry him, and get the oven cooking. A few minutes later she sends me a text (while we are still talking) with a picture of one of the dresses, which was very cute I have to admit, and labelled it "my granddaughter's dress".
So, hopefully you laughed at least once while reading this. If you would like to share your funny mom stories, feel free to comment below. The one that makes me laugh the most will get mentioned in a future post for all to read.
And now I'm sure my mother is going to get me back for this by posting some story on her blog about me or just kick my butt when she gets here. The next post will probably be about the joys of a resume roulette since I just spent yet another 4 hours fixing mine today.
